Intermission

- "You have to understand: there's nothing you can do to stop it from happening. It's too late to feel sorry: she's lost forever!"
So said the demon. And he knew the demon's words were not comprised of falsehood and lies, but of the cold truth... he felt his heart burn with so much rage and frustration, he had trouble standing.
He looked at her eyes, those two beautiful blue drops of Heaven, each crusted in a snow white pearl eye... at that tragic place, these eyes were bloodshot from all her crying, a sea of tears, that had ended with the portal's opening. She remembered being shocked at first, shocked leading to stunned as she gazed in amazement at the swirling, colourful beams and spheres of energy: she had never seen anything so, so...
- "Divine, that's it!", she had thought back then.
Now, it was all the same to her. What she had been marveling at was now planning her demise, choosing its preferred manner in which to add her soul to its infinite-grasping collection.
- "Then it's all been said and done?", he asked, looking at his demonic companion.
- "Yes, mortal, I'm afraid so. The Infernal Gate has been rigged and the time of Hell's final victory is at hand. It's only a matter of time it's fully opened. Pity, I liked your world, there were all sorts of fun to be had... we should leave, you need to put yourself together.", answered the devilish being, "Otherwise, by the time that thing starts pouring Hell, you'll be ripe for possession... and your fighting prowess must not fall into the hands of the Ancient Evils."
The human said nothing, as he continued to gaze at infinity...
- "Now come, there's much to be done", said the demon as he stood up and headed towards the Planeshifting Sphere. Upon arrival, he began casting the incantations required to trigger its teleportation process.
The weary warrior looked back at her chained object of desire, wanting to catch a last glance of her dark locks, the silk-soft hair he had caressed so many times. Her sweet lips were but a shadow of their former selves: all covered in blood, half of them cut open, the other half beaten to a bloody pulp... he remembered, with a sad feeling in his heart, their fire, the burning desire he felt to kiss them, when holding her in his strong arms, the intoxicating sensation she left on his tongue after each kiss. Even torn in rags, he could see her dazzling dress, as if it were the first time she had worn it: it looked so good on her when she tried it and he regretted not one step of his long journey in search of it.
As he began to stand up, he heard the demon say:
- "Wish I could do something to change this, human, but it is beyond my reach"
The battered hero then picked up his trusty sword, wiped the demon blood off and sheathed it. Then he proceeded to reload his rifle, turn the safety on and place it against a nearby rock, so he could put his armour back on.
Finally ready to depart, he reached for his rifle... it was then he felt tears running down his cheeks. Eyes drenched in tears, he looked at his soon-to-be-annihilated lover. Determined to be the man she would be proud of, he wiped the tears with his sleave and turned to walk away, towards the now-brimming mystical orb.
Before he took his first step however, he whispered to her "I love you". As he walked away, he felt tears going down again.
When he arrived a the sphere site, neither being said a word. As the sphere finally sprung to liufe, he tapped the demon on his shoulder and, with a serene smile, told him one word:
- "Thanks."
